These hands-on interactive events can be customized for almost any group! All of our classes include food education and hands-on cooking! Each session lasts about an hour and fifteen minutes.
FOOD EDUCATION + SNACK
An hour and fifteen-minute session includes a food education lesson and made-from-scratch snack.
Sample options include:
All about vegetables and where they grow on the plant. We bring in different vegetables to talk about. We cut up lots of veggies to sample using kid-safe knives appropriate for preschoolers!
How to read an ingredient statement: we bring in familiar processed food packages and we talk about how to read ingredient statements. We make a snack to share at the end - often, we make energy bites and they're a hit!
Sugar Shockers! We do some hands-on lessons to learn about sugar in beverages and then we make smoothies!
Some examples of what we can do include:
DAYCARE
Teach preschool daycare kids about vegetables and have them practice cutting with kid-safe knives. Once they cut their veggies, they’re encouraged to eat them (and they often do)!
SCHOOLS & HOMESCHOOLS
Our food education curriculum has been endorsed by pediatricians, dieticians, parents, and teachers. We will come to your school and teach our food education curriculum to pre-K thru high school-aged kids. All our lessons are interactive and include making a hands-on snack to eat!
YOUTH GROUPS
Give athletes or other youth organizations a better understanding of how they fuel their bodies.
SUMMER CAMPS
Have us visit your summer camp and teach a hands-on class!
Who participates
Our private group events are perfect for daycares, schools, home school groups, summer camps, athletic clubs, church groups, and more!
We work with kids ages 3-18, or preschool thru high school!
For groups with kids ages 6 and under, we ask that one adult leader be present for every 10 children.
For groups with kids ages 7 and above, we ask that one adult be present for every 20 children.
What’s included
We will provide all the materials, ingredients, and equipment* for a successful lesson! We typically come to your location. If you prefer to use our space in the Drake University neighborhood, there will be an extra fee.
*We must have a sink for hand-washing and clean-up. We will also need tables to work at, or desks that can be pushed together. We can bring all the other necessary equipment.
Pricing
$275 session fee plus $5/child. Each session can have a maximum of 30-40 children depending on the topic. We can schedule multiple sessions back-to-back. Recurring sessions are available and include a discount. Fees include all food, equipment, and materials. There is an additional travel fee for locations exceeding a 15-mile radius of 50312.
